Don't sit on the toilet seat, either
Hubby and I have to take HIV/heptatitus tests*. When Hubby asked one of the nurses why, she said it's because, since we're presumably having unprotected sex, I could get pregnant.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
What does an SA of 0/0 mean to you?
*And why do we have to take these tests just because we might get - oh, jeez, I can't even say it -? Other people who don't go to fertility clinics who try to get pg don't have to have these tests. Argh.

back in the day when Husband and i thought that it would simply be a matter of a few months once i stopped taking the pill, we went to see our GP to see if there was anything we should do before we started trying. she sent us off for HIV/hep tests, as well as a battery of others. you may not be as alone as you think you are, even though it does seem a bit excessive, especially given the SA...
You know, you really should be careful of those toilet seats, though.

I agree, I'm a little offended that we have to take so many STD tests but the average fertile doesn't need to prove anything to anybody. I'm sure there is a reason for it but I guess I never bothered to ask what it was.
Actually, the tests are for the benefit of the other IF patients the clinic treats.
Frozen embryos get stored in straws in cooling tanks. The best way to be absolutely sure that infections like HIV and hepatitis don't spread in the tank, is to not allow infected patient's embryos in.
Better safe than sued.
Mind you, they don't even know if infection CAN spread that way.
Knowing whether you are at risk of infecting each other is a bonus.
Oh, I know everyone (at the clinic) is subjected to these tests, and we had to do them last cycle, too, but I can still be offended.
Although, Lut, if they had given me *that* explanation, I'd probably be much more accepting of having more pokes and prods.
Toilet seats. And water fountains. And never, ever share your gatorade.
For the record, they do bother fertiles with stupid STD tests too... they just wait until we are actually pregnant, so you might (we hope) get to be subjected to those again. (and again). Never mind dh and I are both each other's one and only sexual partner... I get tested for Syphilis, et al at least twice a pregnancy, and get to decline the HIV one at least once per pregnancy. Stupid waste of time, energy and the insurance company's money!
